The ATP has decided to add another men’s tournament to its 2021 calendar as a standalone, single-year competition and it will be played in Singapore at the conclusion of the Australian Open. While this tournament is currently on a single-year license from the ATP, there are plans for trying to make this a regular feature.

According to SportSG CEO Lim Teck Yin, who is leading the organisation of this competition in 2021, the Singapore Open could lead to a greater collaboration between the ATP and Singapore, with a possibility of the tournament becoming a part of the Asian swing in the future.

Lim said:

“This ATP 250 tournament is an important competition in ATP’s adjusted calendar for the year. Singapore’s hosting of this event capitalises on the ‘Asia Swing’ and will pave the way for future collaboration with the ATP for future men’s tennis events.”

2021 ATP Singapore Open Schedule and Dates

The en’s tennis tour has added this edition of the Singapore Open for after the Australian Open finishes this season. As a result it can be expected to begin from February 22 and be played till February 28 when the final will be held. The qualifiers will be held in the lead-up to its first round matches, i.e. in the week before February 22.

Player List for the 2021 Singapore Open

Adrian Mannarino will lead the list of players who will take part in this season of the ATP Singapore Open. Since this is an ATP 250 event that would be played immediately after the season’s first major, it might not see too many of the top players participating in this but he will be joined by John Millman and Marin Cilic as well.

What Happened in the 2020 ATP Singapore?

This will be the first edition of the Singapore Open but there were a few previous editions held between 1989 and 1999 with a two-year break in between. Kelly Jones and Marcelos Rios won the tournament twice with the latter being the last singles winner at this tournament in 1999.

It was played on outdoor hard-court surfaces at that time.
