Grand Slams are originally where tennis player get to lay their legacies. It’s also where most of them make a whole lot of money, especially those who don’t have many endorsement deals.

This year’s first Grand Slam which took place in Melbourne saw tennis players from all over the world for the record money of A$71 million at the Australian Open 2020 which was the highest purse of all time even though it didn’t cross the total from last year’s US Open. But it sure does offer a major boost.

The Australian Open has paid both men and women equally from 2001 after which the French Open started the same practice in 2006 and Wimbledon in 2007 which led to all the four grand slams giving equal money to both genders.

Last year’s champions, Naomi Osaka and Novak Djokovic won approximately A$2.82 million.

There was an approximate rise of 13.6% in 2020 as compared to 2019’s prize money with a double digit percentage increase for qualifiers and early-round losers.

Players who only qualified for the qualifiers and lost took home A$20,000 this year which is an increase of 33 per cent while players who got out in the first round will win A$90,000 as prize money which is 20 per cent increase.

The winner and the finalist see small increases of 0.49% and 0.73% with the winner taking home A$4,120,000 and the finalist getting A$2,065,000.

This year, Novak Djokovic managed to win again and take the great prize money home but Naomi lost in the third round to Coco Gauff and Sofia Kenin managed to bag the women’s singles champion crown.
