What Happened at the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors?

Felix Auger-Aliassime‘s brilliant form continued as he won another ATP tournament, clinching the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors competition. It was his third title in three weeks as the Canadian overcame Holger Rune 6-3, 7-5 in the final.

This was after the third seeded Auger-Aliassime had defeated the top seed and world number one Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinal. Auger-Aliassime dropped only one set in the tournament and that came in the first round against Marc-Andrea Huesler.

The 2020 and 2021 edition of the tournament was cancelled because of the pandemic.

Roger Federer made it three titles in a row at the 2019 Swiss Indoors competition by defeating Australia’s Alex De Minaur in the final to lift the trophy.

In doing so, he also became the first male tennis player to have won two tournaments at least 10 times on grass and indoors.

In 2018, Federer won his 99th tour level title defeating qualifier Marius Copil 7-6 (5), 6-4 to emerge victorious in the backdrop of his home crowd at the Swiss Indoors Basel. It was his ninth title at the competition.

Federer was the top seed at the tournament along with Alexander Zverev and Marin Cilic being the second and third seed respectively.

Cilic crashed out of the tournament to the qualifier Maurius Copil for went on to reach the finals. Copil also defeated the second seed Alexander Zverev in three sets in the semi finals to fix a finals match against Roger Federer.

Federer had an easier yet challenging path into the finals compared to his counterpart. He took out the seventh seed Daniil Medvedev in the semi finals after defeating Giles Simon in the quarter finals.
