The tournament is played on clay and is a part of the ATP World Tour 250 series. It is one of the most sought after tournaments in Brazil, followed by the famed Rio Open.
Brasil Open was started in 2001 and up until 2011, the tournament took place in Costa do Sauipe. In 2012, the event was moved to Sao Paulo, which is another popular tourist destination in Brazil. Through the years, the competition has been attended by many famed players like Rafael Nadal, Pablo Cuevas, Fabio Fognini, among others.

The main draw of the 2019 Brasil Open Sao Paulo will begin on Monday, February 25 and will run all the way through to the Sunday, March 3. The qualifiers will be played over the weekend preceding the main draw.

What Happened at the 2018 Brasil Open?
Last season, the competition was won by the Italian No. 1 Fabio Fognini. He defeated Nicolas Jarry in the final in three sets to lift his first title of the season. He eventually moved on to follow that with titles in Sweden and Los Cabos.
His path to the final was certainly quite interesting. In the semis, he defeated the third seed Pablo Cuevas in straight sets. Just before that, he had moved past Guillermo-Garcia Lopez with 6-4, 6-2.
In the opposite half, Albert Ramos Vinolas started as the top seed but he could make it as far as the third round where he lost to Jarry. Gael Monfils also started in the competition as the fourth seed. However, having enjoyed a bye into the second round, he lost his opening fixture to Horacio Zeballos.
