This is seen as a historic step in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to make itself an elite sports nation. The Diriyah Tennis Cup isn’t a standalone tennis competition, but will share the space with some of the other sporting events in the Diriyah Season. The one month long sporting event will have two Formula E races, a boxing world heavyweight title bout which is called the Clash On The Dunes and the Diriyah Equestrian Festival sandwiching the showcase tennis event.

The Diriyah Tennis Cup is already looking like it will be a success with some of the best players in the world committing themselves to the inaugural tournament. In the first edition of the tournament, some of the top players in the tennis world can be expected to take part in the competition. More information on the players taking part in the Diriyah Tennis Cup can be found below.

The maiden edition of the event will offer up a total prize money of $3 million. The three-day tournament will take place in the Diriyah Arena, which has a capacity of 15,000. While it is set to be a huge event in terms of the prize money, it will not offer any ATP points since it is not yet a part of the ATP tour.

“Our vision is to achieve greater participation in sport – hosting the world’s best tennis players here can only help to achieve our goals. Sport provides incredible opportunities to engage and inspire people; tennis provides another platform for us to do that in the Kingdom,” said the chairman of the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia (GSA) before the first season.
