Novak Djokovic v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head

Seven-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic begins his quest for another title against German Jan-Lennard Struff. The players have met twice on the tour with Djokovic winning on both occasions in straight sets.

Djokovic Looking For Strong Start In Search of Title Number Eight

Defending champion Novak Djokovic arrives in Melbourne holding a record seven Australian Open titles and begins as a favorite for title number eight.

After winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2019, Djokovic did not have the best end to the season having to pull out in his fourth round match against Stanislas Wawrinka with an injury.

Despite winning the Paris Masters, a quarter-final loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Shanghai (Masters 1000) and elimination in the round robin stages of the ATP Finals in London were sub-par for the Serb, who in turn lost the race for year-end world number one to Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

The 2020 season has got off to an ideal start for Djokovic who led Serbia to victory at the inaugural ATP Cup last week.  Winning all his singles matches in the group stages comfortably, the Serb was challenged in the quarter-finals and semi-finals by Next Gen stars Denis Shapovalov and Daniil Medvedev.

Pitted against Nadal in the final for the 55th version of this rivalry, Djokovic was in splendid form winning in straight sets, in what felt like a repeat of the 2019 Australian Open final.

The world number two will hope to carry his form into the Australian Open as he begins his quest for another title at Melbourne Park.

Can Struff Challenge Djokovic at The Back Of Recent Good Form ?

German Jan-Lennard Struff reached a career high ranking of number 33 in 2019, at the back of consistent performances on the tour, which included victory over then world number three Alexander Zverev at the Indian Wells Masters as well as making the second week of a major for the first week at the French Open.

2020 has got off to a mixed start for the German. After losing to Nick Kyrgios in the ATP Cup opener, Struff came back strong to win his next two group stage matches including a very convincing win over rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime.

However, this was followed by an early loss this week at the Adelaide International to little known Aussie wild card Alex Bolt.

Struff will look to make the most of his strong serve and solid baseline play and hope to hit form early in his difficult first round encounter against Djokovic

Novak Djokovic v Jan-Lennard Struff Predictions & Tips

Struff has been in good form and has the tools to compete with the best on an even keel, but the occasion may get the better of him. Playing an Australian Open first round match against a player of the stature of Novak Djokovic could overwhelm the best out there.

Expect Djokovic to pick up from where he let off at the ATP Cup and he should be able to win this encounter relatively comfortably in straight sets.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 1/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
