At the time of writing it’s still very early days in the Polish Swiatek’s career but she has already done what many don’t achieve in their entire career, i.e. win a Grand Slam.

Even going by the manner in which recent Grand Slams have seen a variety of women’s singles champions, Swiatek’s feat has been nothing short of extraordinary. Not too many tennis players win a major as teenagers these days because of the stricter rules around when they can start playing as full-blown professionals but to then pocket the title as a 19-year-old makes for a remarkable feat.

Adding to the feat was the manner of her victory.

Ranked 54th in the world going into the Roland-Garros competition, Swiatek did not drop a single set in the entire competition, and lost not more than four games in any of the sets before carving out a 6-4, 6-1 win over Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin (check her racquet specs here) in the final.

Earlier, she had romped past the 2019 runnerup Marketa Vondrousova and then crushed pre-tournament favourite Simona Halep, beating both with identical 6-1, 6-2 scorelines.

Swiatek had earlier made it to the final of the Ladies Lugano Open in 2019, and then made fourth round appearances at both, the French Open that year and the Australian Open in 2020, showing signs of the talent she is.

A look at her early results points to Swiatek being a player for all courts, who relies heavily on strong serving, excellent topspin and backhand down the line. And having won the award for the WTA Shot of the Year in 2019 with a sterling drop-shot, she does possess an all-round game to test even the best of the lot.

So, Which is Iga Swiatek’s Racquet?

Iga Swiatek uses the 290 version of the Prince Textreme Tour 100, which is obviously lighter than the more famous 310 version.

This racquet provides speed without giving away a lot of the stability as was evident by how well Swiatek played at the 2020 French Open, especially from the baseline because of its lighter weight.

This isn’t a piece of tennis equipment too many on the tour use but seeing the success of Swiatek, that might change quickly.
