What Happened at the 2020 WTA Lexington Open?
The tournament saw all the seeded players get knocked out before reaching the semifinal stage with Jennifer Brady beating Jil Teichmann in the final to lift the trophy.
Earlier Brady had knocked out teenage sensation Cori Gauff and Teichmann overcame Shelby Rogers in straight sets in the semifinals to set up the title-decider. Serena Williams needed three-setters in both her first two rounds, including a win over sister Venus before she fell away to a close defeat to Rogers.
This is the second edition of the WTA Lexington Open as a part of the WTA International circuit. Till the previous season, the Lexington Open was played as an ITF circuit competition. Last season, South Korea’s Kim Da-bin had won the title defeating Ann Li in the final.
Interestingly, Ann Li was the losing finalist in 2018 as well, going down to Asia Muhammad in the final, while Sofia Kenin was a runner-up in 2017 after she lost to Grace Min.
