This competition is played on indoor hard courts, in Montpellier since 2010 after it was first played the Palais des Sports de Gerland in Lyon for a period between 1987 and 2009. It’s played at the Arena Montpellier.

Players like Yannick Noah, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Andy Roddick and Tomas Berdych have all participated and won the title here at least once. Jim Courier, Mats Wilander, Lleyton Hewitt and Pat Rafter have all been losing finalists in the past too.

The previous year’s prize money at this tournament was around half a million euros, and it’s a part of the ATP 250 series, which offers the tournament winner 250 points.

2019 ATP Montpellier Open Schedule & Dates:

The 2019 Montpellier Open kick-starts on February 4 and will go all the way to February 10. Four players get a bye to the second round while the remaining 24 feature in the opening round matches from the opening day. There will be qualifiers played on February 2 and 3 to decide four of them.

The exact order of play and daily schedule for the Montpellier Open will be disclosed a few days before the start of the tournament.

The player list for the 2019 edition of the tournament is yet to be released but what’s revealed is that Andy Murray will feature in this competition after the Australian Open as he focusses on his comeback from his fitness woes. David Goffin, Lucas Pouille, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Damir Dzumhur could be some of the others looking to return to the tournament from the previous tournament.

What Happened at the 2018 ATP Montpellier Open?

The defending champion going into this year’s Montpellier Open is Lucas Pouille who defeated previous champion Richard Gasquet in the final, winning 7-6, 6-4. The second seeded Pouille won his semi-final after his Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired from their encounter because of injury in the second set.

Pouille had won the first set and was 5-5 in the second at the time of that withdrawal. In the other semi-final, Gasquet defeated top seeded Goffin in a tough three-setter to set up the title-deciding fight.

Also featuring in the tournament was Spain’s David Ferrer who went down to Karen Khachanov in the opening round. Khachanov made it to the quarter-final but losing to Goffin at that stage.

Other seeded players like Damir Dzumhur, Andrey Rublev and Yuichi Sugita did not push too much into the latter stages of the competition last year.
