Novak Djokovic is a Serbian tennis star who emerged from the shadows of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and carved out his own image and became a part of the Big Three in tennis.

The youngest of the current big three, which apart from him includes Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, he is closing in on both their records of Grand Slam titles, and may surpass them both before he hangs up his racquet.

Not only has he won multiple Grand Slams and the ATP World Tour Finals on numerous occasions, but he also won gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Two years later he led Serbia to their only and only Davis Cup triumph so far, and, in 2020, helped them win the inaugural ATP Cup in Australia.

In winning the French Open in 2016, he became the eighth player to complete the Career Grand Slam, and is the only male player in history to have won all of the Masters 1000 tournaments.

Despite his achievements, Djokovic lags behind both Federer and Nadal when it comes to popularity. One reason for this is the frequency with which he gets involved in heated exchanges with umpires and tennis officials, sometimes allowing emotion to get the better of him.

In his defence though, he would point to the fact that he has a better head-to-head record against both of them.

An aggressive baseliner, Djokovic is particularly renowned for his backhand down the line, and for the effectiveness of his return of serve, which John McEnroe has described as the greatest in the history of the game. He is an effective server, particularly when it comes to the first serve which he hits flat. However, he is prone to making mistakes with his smash.
