What Happened at the 2022 WTA Poland Open?

With the world number one and local favourite Iga Swiatek falling in the quarterfinals, losing to Caroline Garcia it was the latter who went on to win the 2022 title. Garcia defeated Ana Bogdan 6-4, 6-1 to continue her good run of form.

Garcia had earlier crushed Jasmine Paolini while Bogdan squeaked past Kateryna Baindl in their respective semifinals.

Maryna Zanevska won the first title in 2021. She defeated Kristina Kucova in the final, winning 6-4, 7-6 (4) to clinch her first ever title on the WTA circuit.

The tournament had earlier been hit by the withdrawals of a plethora of players with Yulia Putintseva, Tamara Zidansek, Tereza Martincova and Anhelina Kalinina, all seeds, opting to not take part in the tournament.

As a result, only one seeded player, the ninth seeded Nuria Parrizas Diaz, made it as far as the quarterfinal stage of the competition.

Zanevska overcame Kateryna Kozlova and Kucova defeated Tamara Korpatsch in the semifinals to move into the title-decider.
