Karolina Pliskova v Margarita Gasparyan Head to Head
In the only time they met, Gasparyan proved herself to be the superior player on the occassion. The match was in the 2016 WTA Doha and the Russian won with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 score.
Pliskova, Fresh Off an Intense Match
Last week, the Czech No. 1 kickstarted her grass preparations in Birmingham, where she met her twin Kristyna in the second round. It was a meeting that took place after six years and had all the elements to be a thrilling, nail-biting affair.
Both the players were nervous but as the match headed into the final set, it was far more evident. Unforced errors became frequent but eventually, the left-handed of the twins came out on the top and stunned World No. 3 in three sets.
It was one of those few defeats where Karolina Pliskova fell to a low-ranked player. It last happened in Madrid where she lost to Kateryna Kozlova in the second round. Since then, she won the Italian Open and had a decent run in the Roland Garros, reaching the third round. For a short period, she also held No. 2 singles ranking.
Her best showing in Eastbourne came back in 2017, when she won the event. Pliskova will be gunning for the same feat again but this time, the draw is far more tricky.
Gasparyan, Battling with Inconsistency
The 24-year-old Gasparyan has won only 12 matches this year, while losing a massive 11 in the process. The highlight of her season came in Birmingham last week, when she stunned Elina Svitolina in the opening match.
Even though she lost the following match to Petra Martic, it was a nice feather in her cap to add. The only other time she had a promising run was in the WTA Istanbul, where she made it to the semis. Rest of the times, Gasparyan never moved past the initial rounds.
Pliskova v Gasparyan Predictions & Tips
Expect Pliskova to put on a commanding performance. She will be keen to get some momentum before the Wimbledon and a win over the Russian will certainly benefit her cause. However, she has lost to Gasparyan before and it can happen again.
