Karolina Pliskova v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head

The two ladies have met only once on the tour – the 2017 French Open. It was the second round where Pliskova was pushed to three sets before finding her way to the third round.

Business as Usual for Pliskova

Pliskova started her grass season last week in Birmingham, where she lost in the second round to Kristyna Pliskova. Determined to turn that form around, she arrived in Eastbourne and has already made quite an impression.

She first defeated Margarita Gasparyan in straight sets and then, moved past Elise Mertens with 6-1, 6-2.

With a win-loss record of 30-9, Pliskova has been among the most consistent players on the tour this season. She has won two singles titles, including the coveted Italian Open. What will be interesting to see here is whether can she replicate the same feat on the grass courts too.

She has a good history in Eastbourne, having reached the final here back in 2016 and winning the tournament very next season. But at the same time, Pliskova hasn’t made it big on the grass since then.

An Uplifting Run for Alexandrova

The 24-year-old Russian has been working quite hard on the WTA Tour this season. With a win-loss record of 18-16, she has been absolutely relentless in her pursuits.

She has been playing on grass for the last couple of weeks, starting with the Libema Open. She reached the quarterfinal there before falling to Alison Riske while in Birmingham, she lost the opening match to Petra Martic.

Most of her season this year has been along these lines. However, Alexandrova had a phenomenal run in the St. Petersburg Open where she reached the quarterfinal as a qualifier. Later in Budapest, she reached the semifinal.

Pliskova v Alexandrova Predictions & Tips

While Pliskova will start this match as the favourite to win, Ekaterina Alexandrova will certainly do her part in making things complicated for the Czech. In the 2016 Wimbledon qualifiers, she played 108 games in three matches to reach the main draw. When truly determined, the Russian will go to every length to get herself the much-needed win.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
