Karolina Pliskova v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head
The two players have never met before on the WTA Tour.
Pliskova, on the Cusp of Glory
Pliskova started Canadian Open in contention for World No. 1 crown and now, she is just one win away from getting a chance to regain that ranking.
With 38 wins and just 10 defeats, the Czech has been absolutely ferocious and efficient this season. She has won three titles already: Brisbane International, Italian Open, and WTA Eastbourne while reaching the final in the Miami Open.
In addition to these finale runs, Pliskova has also been quite clinical in reaching the latter rounds. Of course, she has also had her fair share of defeats with her shocking loss in the fourth round of Wimbledon being her most recent one. Thankfully, the Czech prodigy hasn’t had to deal with any injury concerns so far.
With a bye into the second round in Toronto, she dispatched the likes of Alison Riske and Anett Kontaveit to reach the quarterfinal. This marks the second time in the tournament’s history that she has reached the quarterfinal and so far, she has never made it past this round.
Andreescu Marks a Heroic Return
The 19-year-old Andreescu was on a roll, up until the French Open when her campaign was derailed due to a right shoulder injury. By that point, she had registered 32 wins and just four defeats, including her winning run in the Indian Wells Open.
In her wake, she managed to stun and astonish many big guns like Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki, Elina Svitolina, among others. Just when it seemed that she would continue this run, she was compelled to take some time off the tour to recover from the injury and consequently, she missed the entire grass swing.
She returned to action in her home tournament in the Canadian Open, where the stage was set for her. Her journey so far in Toronto has been nothing short of a blockbuster movie. Starting her Eugenie Bouchard in the opener, she outmanoeuvred Daria Kasatkina and Kiki Bertens in three sets, to reach the quarterfinal.
It is certainly astonishing to see someone as young as Andreescu maintain all that momentum despite a considerable long break from the tour. She can definitely take Pliskova head-on and quite possibly, walk away with yet another sensational win.
Pliskova v Andreescu Prediction & Tips
With that three-set thrilling win over Bertens, Andreescu will fancy her chances here. On the back of a powerful swing and the ability to play shots of a different variety, she can put the Czech on the backfoot quite early. Expect this one to be a three-setter where Andreescu will start as the heavy crowd favourite.
Tip: Three sets in the match. (888Sport)
