Sloane Stephens v Zhang Shuai Predictions & Preview

Sloane Stephens and Zhang Shuai will meet in the opening round of the Australian Open in a clash between an out of form and in-form player.

Former US Open champion Stephens has been in particularly poor form of late, most recently being humiliated by Arina Rodinova in Adelaide. However, she is known to get her best form in the majors and can be expected to do that again here in Melbourne.

Shuai has been in excellent form of late, playing both the singles and doubles finals in Hobart. What remain to be seen is how much of a toll that has taken on her.

Expect a tight contest with Shuai prevailing in a decider.

Tip: Shuai to win in three sets 11/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)

Allison Riske v Wang Yafan Predictions & Preview

Allison Riske plays Yafan Wang in the opening round of the Australian Open.

Although she has been on the tour for most of the last decade, Riske has been in particularly good form in the last two seasons or so. She reached three WTA finals in 2018 and topped it in 2019, by winning her second WTA title, making the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and breaking into the top 20 in the world.

2019 was a breakthrough year for Wang Yafan, who won her first WTA title at Acapulco. She followed it with a strong showing at the Miami Open defeating Kristina Mladenovic, Elina Svitolina and Danielle Collins before losing in the round of 16.

Expect a tight encounter between both players, with Riske prevailing in two tight sets.

Tip: Riske to win in straight sets: 6/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
