Diego Schwartzman v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

These two have played each other three times so far and Schwartzman leads 2-1. Lajovic opened with a win against Lajovic in their first ever meeting but that was followed by the Argentine defeating him on clay at the 2017 Istanbul Open and at the Australian Open in 2018 in a match that went the distance. That first round match saw Schwartzman winning the final set 11-9.

Schwartzman Looking to Turn Poor ATP Cup Form Around

Schwartzman’s Argentina did make it to the quarterfinal at the ATP Cup but in the four matches he had played in that competition, the world number 14 won just one – against Borna Coric. Losses to Hubert Hurkacz, Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev would have dented some of the confidence of the Argentine, but he has come back well at the Australian Open.

He started things off with a straight set win over Lloyd Harris before crushing Alejandro Fokina Davidovich 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.

This is coming from a player who till very recently preferred clay over most other surfaces, but a title win on the hard courts of Los Cabos last year seems to have turned things around for him. It was his maiden tournament victory on hard court surfaces and with the kind of start he has made here at the Australian Open, things could well be looking even better for him.

Dusan Lajovic in Red-Hot Form This Season

Much like Schwartzman, Lajovic’s only tournament before the Australian Open came as a representation for Serbia at the ATP Cup. And boy, did he play his part in Serbia winning the title or what.

Lajovic won four of his six matches including those against Felix Auger-Aliassime and Karen Khachanov and then followed those victories up with two more in straight sets at the first major. He defeated Kyle Edmund in his opener, before brushing past Marc Polmans in straight sets.

This is some special going for another clay court specialist – to give you the context, Lajovic won just seven of his 19 hard-court matches last year with a first round exit at the Australian Open and second round at the US Open.

Diego Schwartzman v Dusan Lajovic Predictions & Tips

Schwartzman holds the edge over Lajovic on hard court surfaces and that shows in the offered odds as well, with Schwartzman starting out at 3/10 to Lajovic’s 5/2. Could see a fighting battle though, and one that lasts at least four sets.

Tip: Over 37.5 games in the match: 4/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
