Reilly Opelka v Yoshihito Nishioka Predictions & Preview

Having never faced each other before this, USA’s Reilly Opelka will take on Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in their second round encounter. Opelka had won this title last season but is yet to get his campaign this year underway. He has played two matches so far, and lost both – to Pablo Cuevas in the first round in Adelaide and Fabio Fognini in the first round of the Australian Open.

Opelka had a first round bye here which makes it doubly difficult for him as he looks to shrug off form, confidence and rustiness issues coming into this encounter. On the other hand, the fighting Nishioka has already made it to the third round at the Australian Open, won two of his three matches at the ATP Cup in the absence of his more-known countryman Kei Nishikori and came through to the second round here after having spent a decent time on court against Henri Laaksonen.

Which means while on paper, Opelka starts off a favourite, one can expect his Japanese opponent to make a match out of this.

Cameron Norrie v Jason Jung Predictions & Preview

59th-ranked Cameron Norrie will take to court for his second round match against Chinese Taipei’s Jason Jung in their second round for what will be their second match on head to head. In their only previous outing in 2017, Jung had beaten Norrie in straight sets in the first round of the Aptos Challenger.

Ranked 131st in the world, Jung’s playing in his first ATP main draw match at this level this year. In fact his first round shock win over Kevin Anderson came in his first main draw match since September 2019, and rather interestingly was his first match victory since the previous New York Open where he had made the quarterfinal.

Norrie’s had a poor start to the year too. He won a couple of matches at the ATP Cup but against rather low-ranked players and followed that up with back to back defeats in round one of the Auckland Open and Australian Open. Which is why while his win here against Brian Shi should help, it was against a 19-year-old player who isn’t ranked on the ATP charts.

This could be a lot closer than the difference in their rankings suggest, with even the bookmakers offering 4/5 for a Jung win and 10/11 for a Norrie victory.

Kyle Edmund v Dominik Koepfer Predictions & Preview

This will be the first time that Kyle Edmund and Dominik Koepfer will be facing off in a match, having both registered a straight-set win in their first round matches. Edmund had earlier also made it to the quarterfinal of the Auckland Open but failed to get going at the Australian Open where he lost in straight sets to Dusan Lajovic.

It was no different for Koepfer as far as his Australian Open result was concerned, but a semifinal at the Dallas Challenger just before this should have put him in the right frame of mind. We could be looking at a fighting three-setter here between two evenly-matched players.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 8/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
