John Millman v Yoshihito Nishioka Predictions & Preview

This will be the fourth meeting between the Aussie fifth seed John Millman and Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka, who will be facing off in the first round of this Delray Beach Open competition. Millman has won two of those three encounters, but the last time they played was in 2019, when Nishioka won in straight sets at the Cincinnati Masters.

40th-ranked Millman will be reasonably happy with the start to the season, having won both his ATP Cup matches for starters. This included a victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime as well. This was followed by a quarterfinal at Auckland where he went down to Benoit Paire before he had his chances against Roger Federer at the Australian Open but fell away to a stunning loss in five sets.

Millman has given himself enough time to recover from that heart-wrenching defeat and should start off a favourite in this match against his 63rd-ranked Japanese opponent. Nishioka was sent out packing in the first round at Delray Beach last year and more recently wasn’t able to make it past the second round at the New York Open. The Japanese can be expected to give Millman a fight but might come away second-best.

Adrian Mannarino v Soonwoo Kwon Predictions & Preview

Soonwoo Kwon’s recent performances put him on a pedestal here as he starts off a favourite despite being ranked 40 places behind his first round opponent, Adrian Mannarino. Kwon made it to the quarterfinal at the New York Open after having shocked Milos Raonic in the previous round and was also a quarterfinalist at the Pune Open.

It’s also to do with Mannarino’s form. In the entire season, he has won just one match spread across five tournaments and lost five. Players of different pedigree have been beaten him, including Alexander Bublik, Andreas Seppi, Dominic Thiem, Gael Monfils and Pablo Carreno-Busta.

His confidence might be all over the place going into this encounter but in 11/10 for a Mannarino victory lies a good opportunity.

Tip: Mannarino to win: 11/10 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Ryan Harrison v Damir Dzumhur Predictions & Preview

Ryan Harrison has fallen to 433rd in the world, and as a result of his recent struggles, he starts off as the second-favourite by some distance. Such has been the nature of difficulties, he has been playing at the Challenger level this season – Delray Beach is his first main draw in an ATP 250 this season – and he hasn’t even won too much at those lower circuit tournaments.

Where Harrison will know he has a chance is Dzumhur himself has been in strife. First round losses at Doha, Australian Open, Montpellier Open and the New York Open have been punctuated by only one quarterfinal at the Bendigo Challenger. He should still win but Harrison might have his chances in this one.

Emilio Gomez v Frances Tiafoe Predictions & Preview

Frances Tiafoe was touted to be the next big thing in American tennis but has fallen to 84th in the ATP rankings. And the former top-30 will have a chance to win his first ATP main draw match this season when he takes on the 148th-ranked Emilio Gomez in his first round encounter.

Tiafoe started off his season with back to back defeats in the first round of the Doha Open, Auckland Open and Australian Open, and then won just one match at the Newport Beach Challenger before bowing out. His best showing this season came two weeks ago at the Dallas Challenger where he made it to the quarterfinal and he will want to build on that.

In the 145th-ranked Gomez he has the perfect opportunity to get past that opening round hurdle and try and push deeper into the competition. Gomez did make it to the Dallas Challenger semifinal, his best result of the season and then qualified for the main draw here with two straight-set wins.

Could see a tougher-than-expected match here that goes to three sets.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 8/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
