Stefanos Tsitsipas v Albert Ramos Vinolas Head to Head

In the two previous meetings between Tsitsipa and Ramos-Vinolas, the Greek has won both, thereby leading 2-0. He is yet to drop a set in those too, winning at Barcelona and Basel. This will be their first match at an outdoor hard court.

Tsitsipas Looking to Add to Marseille Title

A next-gen star, the Greek world number six has five ATP titles under his belt including the ATP Finals of the 2019 season. Tsitsipas has reached the semifinal at a Grand Slam but other than that, there hasn’t been a single quarterfinal appearance in a major.

While his current record is already one to die to for, Tsitsipas has been tipped as the next-gen star who can take over the mantle from the Big Three of tennis. The question is at what stage can Tsitsipas go deep into a Grand Slam, defeating some of the biggies on the way. His US Open record suggests he will need quite a huge turnaround for that to happen.

Because in three previous appearances, Tsitsipas is yet to enter the third round.

As far as form goes, Tsitsipas doesn’t have too much to worry. Sure, he lost to Milos Raonic in the semifinal of the Cincinnati Open last week but with a title earlier in Marseille and a finals appearance in Dubai, he would be raring to have a dash here.

Ramos Vinolas Has Struggled on Hard Court

A clay-court specialist, Ramos-Vinolas’ career-best showing came at the Monte-Carlo Masters where he reached the final in 2017. That helped him climb up to 17th in the world, after having made the quarterfinals of the French Open the previous year.

Unfortunately for him, Ramos-Vinolas hasn’t been able to recreate that kind of form again, with a quarterfinal at the 2017 Shanghai Masters followed by a couple of third round exits at both Grand Slams and Masters being his best showing.

Ramos-Vinolas’ more recent form at the bigger tournament has shown a worrying trend. Since making the third round at the 2018 French Open, the Spaniard hasn’t won a match at any Grand Slam, and with just a couple of wins to show on hard court this year, he couldn’t have hoped for a worse first round opponent.

It’s difficult to see how Ramos-Vinolas can turn things around here.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Albert Ramos Vinolas Prediction & Tip

Tsitsipas should have no major worries here, starting off at 1/66 to win his opener and 2/9 to do that in straight sets.

Tip: Tsitsipa to win in straight sets: 2/9 (bet365)
