Brandon Nakashima v Paolo Lorenzi Head to Head

Lorenzi and the 220th-ranked Nakashima have never played each other before this.

Nakashima Gets a Chance to Break Top 200

It was just weeks before the pandemic struck and brought tennis to a grinding halt had former tennis great Pat Cash worked with Nakashima and he had said he was suitably impressed. One of his strongest points, according to Cash, was his strong mentality which helped him win multiple tie-breaks under pressure.

While his qualifier match at the Cincinnati Open against Marton Fucsovics did not go into a tie-breaker and he lost in straight sets, Nakashima has that look about him that he knows his game well. He featured in the World TeamTennis during the pandemic break and played in 13 matches in all too – winning more than half of them.

Before that, he had made the semifinal of the Indian Wells Challenger this year but his best career result came at the Delray Beach Open in 2020. Like here, he won a wild-card into the main draw of that event and then stunned Jiri Vesely and Cameron Norrie in the first two rounds to enter the last-eight stage.

A player to watch out.

Lorenzi’s Played a Whopping 68 Matches This Season!

While some have opted to rest out during the pandemic break, Lorenzi, who is 38 years old, went the other way. He played in multiple tournaments including the International Tennis Series on hard court where he featured in nearly three dozen matches and won more than a handful of them.

That came on the back of ordinary performances in the season before that, when he failed to qualify for the Australian Open main draw and lost his openers at Pune and Delray Beach. His only showing of note came at the New York Open where, as a qualifier, he won his first round match before bowing out in the second.

Now he plays his first ATP match of the post-pandemic season and while it comes against a player ranked outside the top 200, it won’t be as straightforward for the veteran Lorenzi. Can he look at all the tennis he played this season and use that experience to edge out an opponent nearly half his age?

Brandon Nakashima v Paolo Lorenzi Prediction & Tip

This could be a fighting battle and one where neither player would give an inch. Looking at this to go into at least four sets.
