Bondarenko Resumes Tennis With a Protected Ranking

Having taken a break from tennis to go on a maternity leave, Bondarenko returned to the sport in September last year and played in three tournaments in 2019. This year, she started off well at the Shenzhen Open as she won her first two rounds before losing to Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinal.

That, however, has been her best showing of the season.

Following that defeat in Shenzhen, she lost in the first rounds of the Australian Open and Hua Hin Open, before winning the first rounds at both Acapulco and Monterrey.

On her return to tennis after the pandemic break, Bondarenko featured in two WTA tournaments; at Lexington and Cincinnati Open and lost both opening round matches.

She now faces a low-ranked opponent who is in her own struggles.

Kiick’s Won No Main Draw Matches This Year

With a highest ranking of 126th in the world, Kiick has had a good career at the lower circuit, having won seven ITF circuit tournaments and appeared in four other finals. Two of these titles, at Cucuta and Barcelona, came in 2019.

In 2020, however, she hasn’t played too much. Having participated in four main circuit competitions, Kiick won just the one qualifying encounter at the Australian Open and has lost four others.

These include the first qualifier at Auckland Open where she won just one game, and the second round at the Newport Beach Open after getting an opening bye. Her latest defeat came at the hands of Varvara Lepchenko in the Cincinnati Open qualifiers.

Kateryna Bondarenko v Alexandra Kiick Prediction & Tip

Bondarenko has herself struggled this year but as luck would have it, she is playing against one who has basically won nothing this season. She could carve out a straight set win in this.

Tip: Bondarenka to win in straight sets: 8/15 (bet365)
