Even though the Serbian prefers the clay courts more than the faster hard courts, he is a very good player on the surface. But surprisingly he had not managed to win a single main draw match at the Flushing Meadows since 2015. So finally getting past the first round would have been a huge relief to him.
Apart from a brief spell on the sidelines due to injury back in 2018, Krajinovic has been a consistent performer on the tour. The fact that he comes from the same country as world number one Novak Djokovic means that he probably doesn’t get as much attention as he otherwise would have.
His performances have improved with each passing year and currently the 28-year-old enjoying his career-high ranking of 26.
He was very impressive last week at Cincinnati. He beat Dominic Thiem in straight sets in the second round and pushed Milos Raonic to three tough sets before bowing out in the quarter-finals.
Now he has a great chance to achieve his best-ever US Open showing. This will also mean that he will break into the top 25 rankings for the first time.

Spirited Giron Continues His Impressive Hard Court Run
The hard-fought five-set win in the first round was the 11th victory for Giron on the North American hard courts since the season resumed. Albeit a lot of those came on the Grand Slam Tennis Tour exhibition event, his performances have been impressive.
He reached the second round at the Cincinnati Masters after coming through the qualifiers and has broken into the top 100 rankings for the first time in his career. Now with his win in the first round he also achieved his personal best run at the US Open.
Currently ranked 96th in the world, the 27-year-old would look to move further up in the rankings and ensure an automatic qualification at the French Open later this month.

Giron has performed admirably on the hard courts in the last one month. But Krajinovic will be too big a challenge for him to overcome.
