Player List for 2019 ATP Rio Open:

The complete list of participants for the 2019 edition of ATP Rio de Janeiro is expected to be released a few weeks before the tournament is scheduled to start. In the meantime, however, it is definitely worth taking a look at some of the players who have confirmed their participation for this ATP 500 Series event.

The 2017 ATP Rio champion and the World No. 8 Dominic Thiem is set to play in the competition. For the time being, he will be joined by the defending champion Diego Schwartzman, the Italian No. 1 Fabio Fognini and Thiago Wild.

What Happened at the 2018 ATP Rio Open?

In 2018, the likes of Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Fabio Fognini participated in the tournament as top seeds. The line up was quite stunning, to say the least, with other players like Fernando Verdasco, Gael Monfils, Pablo Cuevas, Diego Schwartzman and others taking the remaining slots.

The top seeds succumbed in the early rounds, paving the way for the underdogs to rise to the top. In the top half, Schwartzman sailed comfortably to the final without dropping a single set. In the bottom half, it was Verdasco who paved his way to the final after defeating Thiem in the quarterfinal and Fognini in the semis.

The final showdown was not as entertaining as some fans would have expected it to be. Schwartzman had the upper hand over his Spanish adversary throughout the match and he moved on to win the trophy comfortably in straight sets.
