Nakashima Struggling This Season

World no. 74 Brandon Nakashima comes to Toronto for the second consecutive year. Last year, the 22-year-old had lost in the opening round on his debut.

The American, who beat Lehecka in the ATP NextGen final last year, has been in ordinary form this year and a 9-15 season record is a proof of that.

Nakashima produced his best result of the season on clay in Lyon, where he was a semifinalist. He has not reached another quarterfinal this year.

On hard courts, Nakashima has a 5-7 record this season. While he lost in the first rounds in Adelaide-2 and the Australian Open, he won his opening round matches in Acapulco, Indian Wells, Miami, and more recently in Atlanta and Washington.

But in all these tournaments he went down in the second round.

Can Nakshia find some consistency in his game in Toronto?

Lehecka v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

Lehecka has been the more successful player this year, but he has not played on hard courts since March in Miami. In contrast, Nakashima featured in Atlanta and Washington over the last two weeks and is 2-2 from the two tournaments. Expect this one to be a close contest with Nakashima edging past the Czech once again to improve to 3-0 against the Czech.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Nakashima to win: 5/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 26.5 games in the match: 5/6
