Mannarino Has Displayed Good Form Recently

After an outstanding run on grass courts last month, Adrian Mannarino suffered an opening round defeat last week in Washington in his first match on hard court since the Miami Open.

Mannarino went down to Jordan Thompson in straight sets in the second round of the Citi Open. He will be hoping to overcome that setback and return to winning ways in Toronto.

The 35-year-old is 25-17 at the tour level and 26-22 across levels this year. He had his best time of the season on grass, reaching the finals in Mallorca and Newport. While he finished runner-up in the former, he won his third career title by beating Alex Michelsen in the final in Newport.

On hard courts, Mannarino has a 12-9 record at the tour level this year.

The left-handed Frenchman is 6-6 in Canada and his best performance came in 2017, when he reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. Last year, he fell in the round of 32.

Daniel Comes Through Qualifiers

Taro Daniel made it to the main draw with back-to-back straight sets win in the qualifying rounds in Toronto.

Daniel defeated Australia’s Dane Sweeny 7-6, 7-5 in the first qualifying round on Saturday and then ousted France’s Corentin Moutet 7-6, 6-2 in the second qualifying round on Sunday to reach the main draw of the Canadian Open for the first time.

Ranked no. 115 in the world, Daniel is 25-22 across levels this year.

The 30-year-old Japanese player had a lovely run in March, when he reached the quarterfinals in Acapulco and made it to the third rounds in Indian Wells and Miami.

Some of the highlights during that run included wins over Casper Ruud in Acapulco, Matteo Berrettini in Indian Wells and alexander Zverev in Miami. He has not found much success though in other tournaments, but will look to draw inspiration from those performances as he begins his Canadian Open campaign.

Mannarino v Daniel Prediction and Tip

Mannarino has been in better form this season. He has reached two finals, won a title and barring the clay season, has been consistent throughout this year. In contrast Daniel’s current form has been concerning. Expect the Frenchman to advance.
