Iga Swiatek v Karolina Pliskova Head to Head

Swiatek leads the rivalry 2-0. She double bagelled Pliskova in the Rome final in 2021 and rallied from a set down to win the Stuutgart quarterfinal this year.

A week after winning her fourth title of the season in Warsaw, Iga Swiatek will be making her third appearance at the Canadian Open. The world no. 1 has not gone beyond the third round in the previous two attempts but given the form she is in this year, she will be hoping to make a deep run this year.

Swiatek is 47-7 this season and that includes a 21-4 run on hard courts.

The 15-time tour level champion from 19 finals has featured in six finals already in 2023. She won her fourth Grand Slam title at the French Open, and also triumphed in Doha, Stuttgart and Warsaw.

However, she finished runners-up in Dubai and Madrid.

Currently on a five-match winning streak, the top seed will be a tough player to beat. She faces a tough opener but is expected to get off to a good start.

Pliskova Battles Past Zhu

Karolina Pliskova has a fantastic record at the Canadian Open and the world no. 23 made a winning start this year as well as she battled past China’s Lin Zhu in the first round on Monday.

Pliskova, who was a runner-up in 2021 and a semifinalist last year, needed two hours and 26 minutes to beat Zhu 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 6-2.

While she won the first set on the back of a solitary break, she missed out on two match points in the second set tiebreak as the world no. 36 tied the match at one-set apiece.

Pliskova, however, came out all guns blazing in the final set. She raced to a 4-0 lead, Zhu pulled a break back but a third break late in the set sealed the contest for the Czech player.

Thanks to the win, Pliskova is now 20-14 across levels in 2023 and that includes 17-8 record on hard courts. But barring her runs to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, Dubai International and the Stuttgart Open and her round of 16 finish in Indian Wells she has had very little success in the main draws of the tour level events. So her form remains a cause of concern.

Swiatek v Pliskova Prediction and Tip

Swiatek hasn’t had as much success in Montreal as Pliskova has had in the past, but the Pole is 2-0 against the Czech and has been in far better form this season. Expect the top seed to sail through.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Swiatek to win: 1/3
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
