Kokkinakis Sends Zhang Out
Zhizhen Zhang’s record this season has been quite solid but his performances have usually come on clay. Which is why, up against Kokkinakis who is ranked 86th in the world, he wasn’t quite the favourite.
And Kokkinakis showed why that was exactly the right call.
In a match that lasted a mere hour and 27 minutes, the Aussie came away a 7-5, 6-4 winner and make the second round of this competition for the first time in his career.
The Aussie blasted 14 aces and won 80% of his first serve points to ensure he did not face a single break-point even as he broke Zhang twice from the two opportunities he got. With this win, Kokkinakis has now reached the second round of a Masters 1000 tournament for the fourth time this season.
This will be his chance to make it to round three for the first time in 2023.
