Hubert Hurkacz v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the qualifiers of the 2019 Rome Masters. Kecmanovic had won that in three sets.

A runner-up at the Canadian Open last season, Hurkacz looked like he had taken off from where he left in 2022 with a straight-set win in the first round.
Hurkacz was 9/20 odds coming into his opener against a tricky opponent in the form of Alexander Bublik and he managed to live up to those odds.
The world number 17 was on court for an hour and 19 minutes as he shrugged off a break of serve in each of the two sets to make it to the second round. Hurkacz won 6-3, 7-6 (2) to continue his good form in Canada.
After the players had traded breaks in the third and fourth games, Hurkacz clinched a deciding break in the fifth and then broke his opponent again in the ninth. Bublik responded by going up a break at 3-2 but then lost his serve in the very next game.
Hurkacz did miss a match-point on Bublik’s serve but in the tie-breaker that followed he raced away to a 6-0 lead before winning it off his fourth match-point. Can he now gallop past an otherwise struggling Kecmanovic?

Kecmanovic Edges Garin
We had anticipated Cristina Garin to put up a strong fight in his opening round match against Kecmanovic and that’s exactly what he did. Fortunately for the Serb, he found a way to stall his opponent’s progress and came through in three sets to make it to the second round.
Kecmanovic overcame Garin in a first round match that lasted two hours and 48 minutes, winning 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-4 in the end.
And it wasn’t easy as the off-colour Kecmanovic was forced to save 13 of the 17 break-points against his serve. He also broke his opponent four times including twice in the deciding set after having fallen 1-3 behind at one stage.
In fact even at 3-3 in the third set, Kecmanovic saved two break-points in the seventh game and two more in the ninth before breaking Garin in the 10th to clinch his place in the second round.
He now has a tough second round meeting and unless he can up the ante on his serve, this might not be headed in his favour.
