Daniil Medvedev v Matteo Arnaldi Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the first round of the Dubai Open played earlier this year and Medvedev had won that easily.

A two-time finalist in this competition and having won the title the last time the Canadian Open was played in Toronto, Medvedev returns to hardcourt tennis after being out action for nearly a month.
The world number three last featured at Wimbledon where he made the semifinal before going down to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. And while that would have been a painful loss, Medvedev will also know he now has a chance to go on another winning spree as he returns to his favourite surface.
A 20-time tournament winner, Medvedev has clinched 18 of those in hardcourt competitions including one at this tournament, another at the Cincinnati Masters and also the US Open.
Four of those 18 competition victories have come this year with Medvedev lifting the trophies at Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai and Miami and finished runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz. He should not have too many problems starting off with an easy win here.

Arnaldi Overcomes Local Favourite Pospisil
It’s been a bit of a bizarre coincidence for Arnaldi to have made it to the second round of this competition on the back of three successive wins with the same scoreline. After clinching a couple of qualifying victories 6-4, 6-4, he defeated Vasek Pospisil in similar fashion to march on to the second round of this tournament for the first time.
In a match lasting an hour and 33 minutes, Arnaldi saved six of the seven break-points on offer for his opponent while overcoming Pospisil’s serve on three occasions.
In fact it was Pospisil who went 2-0 up in the first set before Arnaldi came back to level things out in the fourth game and broke the local player’s serve again in the ninth game. Soon after Arnaldi had served out the set and taken a 3-1 lead in the second.
Pospisil had one more opportunity to break Arnaldi but he fluffed it up before his opponent served out the match.
Things will get a lot spicier for Arnaldi but for now he will enter the match happy in the knowledge that he would have broken into the top 60 irrespective of the result of this encounter.
