Jessica Pegula v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting between these two and it came at this very tournament last year. Pegula had won that quarterfinal in straight sets.

Pegula 21-7 in Hardcourt Competitions This Season
While Pegula hasn’t won a single title this year so far, she has done well to accumulate a win-loss record of 21-7 in hardcourt tournaments this season. These wins include a couple of victories that Pegula notched up at the Washington Open last week where she reached the semifinal.
After defeating the tricky Peyton Stearns and in-form Elina Svitolina, Pegula had entered her last four match there against Maria Sakkari as a 3/5 favourite but fell to a three-set defeat.
Pegula had earlier helped the USA win the United Cup title by winning four of her five singles matches in that competition and then made the quarterfinal of the Australian Open. A final in Dubai and a semifinal at the Miami Open followed soon after but that killer blow, that sucker punch has been missing.
Can Pegula get herself into a position in this tournament to try and go deep and then from there on win her maiden title of the year?

Putintseva Goes Past Pera
Despite losing in the qualifiers of this tournament, Putintseva is here in the second round, ready to take on the challenge of the world number three.
This came after her second qualifying round loss at the hands of Kimberly Birrell after which the Kazakh had come into the tournament main draw as a lucky loser. And in a match lasting an hour and 25 minutes, Putintseva had sent local player Bernarda Pera packing.
Putintseva won 6-3, 6-4 after breaking her opponent’s serve once in the first set and twice in the second.
This follows a middling showing in hardcourt competitions from the Putintseva stable, having reached the quarterfinal of the Hobart International but at the same time not winning successive main draw matches in any of the other seven hardcourt tournaments.
Can Putintseva now put up a fight against Pegula?
Pegula v Putintseva Prediction and Tip
