Alexander Zverev v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players, all of which were won by Zverev. Their only encounter on an outdoor hardcourt surface came at the 2020 US Open.

While Zverev came through rather in straight sets in his first round match, he had to work his way to break Tallon Griekspoor’s resistance over an hour and 46 minutes.
In the end, Zverev won 6-4, 7-6 (3) to enter round two of a competition he has won before in 2017.
Zverev had entered this tournament on a rather underwhelming win-loss record of 6-7 in hardcourt tournaments this year but that had been down to his early rustiness after returning from injury this season.
He did well on his serve, saving the only break-point he faced, winning 81% of his first serve points and losing just five of his second serves. On the other hand, breaking Griekspoor proved to be a bit of a task but he was able to exert the pressure when it was needed in the 10th game of the opening set.
The second set went into a tie-breaker after Zverev failed to convert his only break-point but he did well to ease to a win in it.

Fokina Routs Wolf
In what turned out to be a shockingly one-sided win for Fokina, he routed JJ Wolf 6-0, 6-2 to march his way into the second round.
Fokina had entered the encounter as a 1/1 underdog but the manner in which he dismantled his 43rd-ranked opponent, it looked like a totally different player.
He raced off to three breaks of serves in the first set and while Fokina was then broken early in the second set, he came back to overcome Wolf’s serve on three more occasions. The Spaniard served it out to love soon after to clinch the win.
This win follows Fokina’s solid start to the season in hardcourt competitions which had seen him reach the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters.
That should afford him some confidence but he is up against a player who has displayed some form in recent times and has beaten him twice before. Things could rather difficult here.
Zverev v Fokina Prediction and Tip
Zverev has never lost a set to Fokina in his previous three meetings with Fokina but we think that will change at some point and this could be the Spaniard’s chance.
