Donna Vekic v Jennifer Brady Head to Head
The first time they faced off was in a qualifier in Rome in 2018 and Vekic had won that. Brady extracted revenge in the 2021 Australian Open.

Since making it to the final at the Berlin Open, Vekic has been all over the place. She first played on the Wimbledon grass, then took part in the Hopman Cup and Hamburg Open on clay and then proceeded to make an appearance on the hardcourt surface of Montreal last week.
While Vekic helped Croatia to win the Hopman Cup, her form in other competitions has been underwhelming.
The Croat lost to Storm Hunter in Hamburg and then fell to Jasmine Paolinin in the opener of the Canadian Open.
Vekic enters the Cincinnati Open having failed to qualify in this event in both, 2021 and 2022. Her best ever performance here came in 2019 when she reached the third round but then hit rock-bottom as she plunged from her career-best ranking of 19th in 2019 to 112th last year.
Due credit to her to have come back up to 22nd at the moment.

Brady in Battles Galore at Montreal
In what will be her fourth tournament since returning to competitive tennis this season following a two-year layoff, Brady will be hoping for a fourth successive opening round win.
She had done that in the Granby ITF competition following which she defeated Anhelina Kalinina and Jelena Ostapenko in the first rounds of Washington and Montreal respectively. Unfortunately for her, she hasn’t been able to win her second round matches at any of those three tournaments.
At the Canadian Open, she was down a couple of match-points against Ostapenko before usurping her while against Elena Rybakina in the second round, she was a set up before losing the match in three.
Brady will now face another tough challenge in the opening round here but given her record in first matches of tournaments, she will have a good chance.

Vekic will hope to turn things around but the momentum is seriously against her at the moment. On the other hand, Brady is doing her bit to get back to her best and she isn’t one to be trifled with we think. Backing Brady to win it.
