Shelton Battles Inconsistency
Ben Shelton like so many players has been struggling with inconsistency. He’s a fairly young player experiencing his first full year on Tour so it was obviously going to happen. He’s been far better than most people assumed though never came close to what he showed at the Australian Open.
He might now as he’s back home on US soil where the courts will play a bit faster than most of the ones he had to deal with for the past year months. His serve will be a major weapon for him giving him plenty of free points in the upcoming matches.
His record this year is 13-21 which shows how much he struggled but we should see that even out towards the end of the year. Toronto saw him win a match though as he defeated Bernabe Zapata Miralles 7-6(1) 6-4 before losing to Alcaraz 3-6 6-7(3).
Those wins should give him some confidence and having beaten Eubanks in the past should do the same. We’ll see if he’ll be able to get it done once more.

Eubanks Eyeing Home Soil Success
For much of his career, Eubanks exclusively played on native soil. It was mostly because he wasn’t ranked very high and tennis is a very expensive sport with all the travelling. It was enough for him to stay afloat but after experiencing major success this year the American ventured out.
He won his maiden trophy in Mallorca on grass and then had a major breakthrough at Wimbledon. Now it’s time to bring that success to the courts he knows best but it will be a tough start. A familiar adversary, one who he finally beat recently.
Can he do it again? Certainly but the question remains whether he will. Eubanks is a good player and the serve will suit him very well in Cincinnati but he’s never won a match in the main draw here. He only played once so keep that in mind.
The year overall ? Pretty good with a 37-20 record. The score on hard is 22-13.

This is going to be a very interesting one and I’m not entirely sold on either as the victor. I do expect two close sets and at least one tiebreak so back the over.
