11th Main Draw Appearance in Cincy For Sloane

Sloane Stephens is set to mark her 11th main draw appearance at the Western & Southern Open next week. Since her debut in 2011, Stephens has only ever missed playing this tournament on two occasions.

Her best showing was the semifinals she attained in 2017, a result many look back on as the driving force in her sensational US Open title win that year.

Stephens hasn’t come close to reprising that result though, having been to the round of 16 twice, and lost in the second round to Iga Swiatek last year.

The American has been a Top 50 mainstay throughout this season, but she owns a negative win-loss record, 14-15. At the 125 K level, Stephens is 5-0 winning the Saint-Malo tournament just before the French Open.

With the US Open around the corner, Stephens will be eyeing one of the top 32 seeds, and a deep run in Cincinnati might suffice in that regard.

Cocciaretto Captures Maiden WTA Title in Lausanne

Elisabetta Cocciaretto had a rollercoaster week in the Swiss city of Lausanne at the end of July. She captured her maiden WTA title with a victory over France’s Clara Burel in the final.

Cocciaretto was taken the distance in four of her matches during the week, and survived match points in matches against Celine Naef (first round) and Anna  Bondar (semifinal) to pull off an unlikely title win.

The achievement was a culmination of hard work, dedication, and commitment to the cause, as Cocciaretto continues to fill the shoes of some of her Italian peers of the past.

Having reached a career-high ranking of No. 30, Cocciaretto is now Italy’s top-ranked player on the WTA Tour, and will kick off her North American hard-court swing in Cincinnati after skipping the Canadian Open in Montreal.

Cocciaretto has an 8-7 record on hard courts this season, reaching her first hard-court final in Hobart in January, losing to Lauren Davis.

Stephens v Cocciaretto Prediction and Tip

Cocciaretto hasn’t played on hard courts since Miami in late March. Even with Stephens’ seemingly unending inconsistency, the American should be heavily favored to come through here.
