Jannik Sinner v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players at the highest level and four if you include the ATP Next Gen Finals and Sinner has won every single time.

Sinner Mauls Paul

After having been taken to three sets by Gael Monfils in the quarterfinals, Sinner did not have a lot of trouble in getting past Tommy Paul in his last four encounter.

In a match that lasted an hour and 53 minutes, Sinner overcame Paul 6-4, 6-4 to make it to the third ATP Masters 1000 final of his career and second of the season.

The duo traded breaks in the first two games of the match and then again in the seventh and eighth game before Sinner broke Paul in the 10th game to grab the set.

Sinner then went 3-1 up in the second set, and while he had a chance to serve it out at 5-3, he was broken by Paul for the third time in the match. Fortunately for Sinner, he earned three match-points off his opponent’s serve in the very next game and won it off the third.

This follows a brilliant showing at Wimbledon where Sinner had made the semifinal. Can he now grab his eighth career ATP title here?

de Minaur Demolishes Fokina

For the second week in running, de Minaur reached the final of a tournament, only this time it was his maiden ATP Masters 1000 final.

For a player who has never made it beyond the fourth round at any of the Masters competition and the quarterfinal of a Grand Slam, this is a giant leap forward. It’s also one that will take him close to breaking into the top 10 in the world.

And de Minaur achieved that with a quick, demolition job of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in his semifinal.

De Minaur, who had defeated Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev on his way to making the last four, routed Fokina 6-1, 6-3 to enter the final. In a match lasting an hour and 18 minutes, de Minaur broke Fokina seven times including every single time he served in the second set.

Sinner has himself been in his usual good form, showing excellent consistency but de Minaur’s momentum and confidence could be a factor here.

Sinner v de Minaur Prediction and Tip

Sinner is 2/5 to win this but we think the match could get a lot closer than that. Expecting a three-setter.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sinner to win: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
