de Minaur Returns after Excellent Toronto Showing

De Minaur is in the kind of form that he would love to take in to the US Open. While he didn’t do too much of note at either Wimbledon or the Atlanta Open, he had preceded those two performances with a appearance in the final of the Queen’s Club competition.

But that wasn’t it.

The Aussie has followed up his quarterfinal loss at the Atlanta Open with back to back title-deciding appearances in Los Cabos and Toronto.

At the former, he fell to Stefanos Tsitsipas. And while he lost to Jannik Sinner at the Canadian Masters, what must also be added here he registered wins over Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev on his way to the final there.

As a result of that, de Minaur has now improved to 12th in the world on the ATP charts and once he can get back after shrugging off his exhaustion, we expect him to carry his run forward here.

Wolf Falls Early in Toronto

While Wolf did make the semifinal at the Atlanta Open and then fell in the quarterfinals in Washington, he was unable to do much of note in Toronto.

The American, who had shown great sparkle in the first quarter of the season with a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open and a semifinal in Dallas – both on hardcourt – was dumped out in the first round of the Canadian Masters.

What made the defeat worse than it actually is, was the manner of that loss.

Wolf lost 6-0, 6-2 to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina despite having started off a 3/4 favourite before the encounter.

And now, as luck would have it, Wolf has been drawn to face an in-form world number 12, making it that much more difficult for him.

Can he take advantage of his opponent’s possible exhaustion from having played 11 matches in 12 days?

de Minaur v Wolf Prediction and Tip

The only thing stopping de Minaur here is if he isn’t physically fit enough to be at his 100%. De Minaur can be expected to start off strongly but a lot will depend on Wolf’s ability to push this match into a third set.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: De Minaur to win: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
