Tommy Paul v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players, both of which came in hardcourt competitions and interestingly, Kecmanovic has won them both.

Paul Coming off Toronto Semifinal

Having made the semifinal of the Australian Open and then the final at Acapulco, Paul would go on to add the final appearance on the grass court of Eastbourne. Later he was ousted in the third round at Wimbledon but in the first Masters 1000 tournament he played after that, Paul made the semifinal.

This came last week at the Canadian Masters where Paul stunned the world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the last eight stage.

Paul would go on to lose to Jannik Sinner in the semifinal but by then he had done enough to rise to 13th in the world (that could be his new ranking coming into this tournament).

Overall too this season, Paul has a 20-8 win-loss record in hardcourt competitions and he will hope to continue dishing out something similar coming into the Cincinnati Masters.

Kecmanovic 8-8 in Hardcourt Competitions

Kecmanovic did make it all the way to the final of the Delray Beach Open earlier this season but other than that his performance in hardcourt competitions has been average at best.

A first round defeat at the Australian Open and opening losses in Acapulco and Indian Wells have been symptomatic of the issue.

More recently – as recently as last week – Kecmanovic overcame Cristian Garin in the first round of the Canadian Masters but then lost to Hubert Hurkacz in the second. The silver lining was the manner in which the Serb started, winning the opening set before Hurkacz grabbed control of the encounter.

Coming into this one against Paul, Kecmanovic will know he will have to do a lot better than he has in hardcourt competitions through most of the season.

Paul v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

Paul shouldn’t have a lot of difficulties here other than the fact that he could well be playing very quickly after having featured in a match on Friday itself. Paul should still edge this contest.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Paul to win: 9/20
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
