Their only previous meeting came at the Bad Homburg Open earlier this year in which Samsonova won in three hard-fought sets.

Samsonova enters the Cincinnati Open with the kind of form that should hold her in a very good stead in the times to come. Especially in the US Open starting later this month.
After all, not too many would have expected her to make it to the semifinal at the Washington Open and then go through a series of rather strong opponents to enter the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal.
What made that run to the Canadian Open final so special was the quality of Samsonova’s victories.
The Russian overcame Qinwen Zheng in the second round before shocking the second seeded Aryna Sabalenka in the third. She would then go on to overcome Belinda Bencic and Elena Rybakina in the next two rounds to reach the final.
While Samsonova proved to be listless in the final against Jessica Pegula, her form has been far too good to ignore. The only factor to look at is if Samsonova has had enough recovery time after playing for two weeks in a row.

Noskova Returns after Missing Canadian Open
After making it to the quarterfinal on the hardcourt surface of Warsaw, Noskova came back stronger in Prague where she made it to the final.
It was Noskova’s second WTA final of her career, both of which having come this year itself.
What it meant was that Noskova had edged up the rankings and now, having qualified for the main draw of the Cincinnati Open, she is just three spots away from her career-best of 45th in the world.
In the qualifiers, Noskova overcame Magdalena Frech and Diane Parry to make it to the first round in what is her first ever appearance at this tournament in Cincinnati.
While she now has a challenge on her hands as she bids to win her first main draw match in a WTA 1000 tournament, she will know if she can push Samsonova long and hard, she might have a chance.

We feel Samsonova will be the favourite but with exhaustion being a factor, Noskova could even pull off an upset if she can take this to the third.
