The two ladies have met only once prior to this encounter, in the 2017 Tashkent Open. Sabalenka won that match in three sets.
Sabalenka Stays in the Top 10
The last couple of weeks for Sabalenka have been quite uneventful. In the Indian Wells Open, she made it as far as the fourth round while in the Miami Open, she lost her opening match to Ajla Tomljanovic.
As a result of this, she has slipped down to the No. 10 position in the ranking although, she is still in the top 10 for now. Sabalenka needs a positive run in Charleston, hopefully, something along the lines of her performance in Shenzhen this year, where she won the title.
In addition to that winning run, the reigning Ladies Open Lugano and WTA Eastbourne runner-up also reached the semifinal in St. Petersburg.
An Opportunity for Kozlova to Shine
Kateryna Kozlova, who started the competition as a qualifier, dispatched Krystina Pliskova in her opening match in straight sets. The season so far hasn’t been that great for the 25-year-old Ukranian as she continues to struggle with her recent form.
In Indian Wells, she did reach the third round – her best performance of the year although, in Miami, she lost in the qualifying stage. Apart from that, she was also a quarterfinalist in Budapest and spent most of her recent times attempting to move past the early rounds.
Sabalenka v Kozlova Predictions & Tips
Sabalenka is going to start this match as the overwhelimg favourite to win. With momentum and form on her side, it will be hard for Kozlova to deliver an upset. The Belarusian hasn’t lost that many matches this season and even then, most of those defeats have come at the hands of top 10 players, except for her loss to Tomljanovic in Miami.
