Marketa Vondrousova v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Vondrousova leads 2-1. Both of Vondrousova’s wins came in 2019 while Potapova defeated the Wimbledon champion recently in Linz.

After having made the third round at the Montreal Open last week, Vondrousova was off to a reasonable start at the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati as she registered a straight-set win over Katerina Siniakova.
In a first round match that lasted an hour and 29 minutes, Vondrousova sealed off her second round match with a 7-5, 6-4 scoreline under her belt.
The Czech player did drop her serve three times in the encounter including two in the first two service games but a late surge allowed her to pocket the set. She then went 3-0 up, lost her serve once more in the fifth game before breaking Siniakova in the 10th game to find a way towards a win.
It might not have been the most straightforward of victories for Vondrousova but she will take it as her maiden triumph in Cincinnati.
She faces another tricky opponent from outside the top 10 in the second round and what will make her more wary is her defeat to Potapova this season.

Potapova Breaks Three-Match Losing Streak
Celine Naef is ranked 161st in the world and was never going to start off a favourite against Potapova but did make life on court very difficult for her 27th-ranked opponent.
In a match that lasted two hours and six minutes, Potapova shrugged off five breaks of serves and a 1-3 deficit in the final set to clinch her second round spot.
Potapova overcame a very poor first set to win 1-6, 6-4, 7-5, registering her maiden win at the Cincinnati Open in the process.
Having come into this tournament on the back of three successive defeats, Potapova needed to climb out of the hole she could have gotten into as she stared at her fourth successive loss. A hard-working second set and a comeback from behind win in the third will be as relieving for Potapova as it would be confidence-inducing.
Can she now recover quickly enough to take down the Wimbledon champion?
