Petra Kvitova v Linda Noskova Head to Head
Kvitova was able to overcome Noskova in Miami earlier this year, easing past her opponent 6-3, 6-0 in their only previous meeting.

It took Kvitova a tad over an hour and a half but she managed to come through in straight sets against Anna Blinkova to set up a second round meeting with fellow Czech and teenager Noskova.
Kvitova won 7-6 (2), 6-0 but it could have been a lot simpler had she managed to serve it out at 5-3 in the first set or even grabbed any one of the two set-points on offer in the 12th game of the opening set.
In the end, she raced away to a 4-0 lead in the tie-breaker, wrapping things up soon after before breaking Blinkova three times in the second set.
This follows Kvitova’s third round defeat at the Canadian Open last week but this time around she has received no opening byes. Which means she will need to get past Noskova to enter round three again, in a tournament she had reached the final last year.
What Kvitova will hope for is another straightforward victory going into the rest of the tournament where the competition will get a lot striffer.

Noskova Shocks Samsonova
Liudmilla Samsonova had come into this tournament having finished a runner-up at the Canadian Open and as such, is a way stronger player than Noskova. However, having played as recently as Sunday, it did look like Samsonova could have had exhaustion issues and as we had surmised in our preview to this match, Noskova had a good chance for an upset win.
This is what we had mentioned there:
“We feel Samsonova will be the favourite but with exhaustion being a factor, Noskova could even pull off an upset if she can take this to the third.”
And that’s exactly what happened.
Noskova lost the opening set easily but in the second when she got a chance to get past her opponent’s serve she did so – twice in fact – to level things out. And once the match had gone into a decider, Noskova knew Samsonova might not have been at her best.
With Samsonova’s energies waning, Noskova broke her three more times to grab her victory.
Things could be slightly different against Kvitova though.

Kvitova will be a favourite to grab this and we think she could do that in straight sets as well.
