As a result of that, McDonald, who had never gone past the second round at the Cincinnati Masters before this did so for the first time in his career. In a match lasting 48 minutes before the Rune pullout, McDonald led 6-4, 2-0 at the time of his opponent’s decision not to continue.
This follows a straight-set win over Yannick Hanfmann in the first round whereby McDonald was victorious 7-5, 6-1.

Mannarino Piles on the Misery on Auger-Aliassime
It continues to remain a miserable season for Felix Auger-Aliassime (who was 11/20 with bet365) who slid to another early defeat this year. And taking advantage of his struggles was French veteran Adrian Mannarino who completed a straight-set win over his 14th-ranked opponent.
Mannarino took the lead when he broke Auger-Aliassime in the fifth game of the opening set before sealing off the set by serving it out to 15. He had earlier saved two break-points in his very first service game.
In the second set, Mannarino went 3-1 up again and while Auger-Aliassime broke back in the eighth game, that was about the fight he was able to show. Mannarino broke right back and then served it out to love to clinch a third round berth for the third time at the Cincinnati Masters.
Earlier in the tournament, Mannarino had eased past Richard Gasquet and he will now hope to get close to his career-best ranking of 22nd in the world with a win here.
McDonald v Mannarino Prediction and Tip
