Iga Swiatek v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between them and that came in 2020 at the French Open where Swiatek won 6-1, 6-2 on her way to the title win.

Vondrousova Proves to be Too Good for Stephens

Having dispelled Katerina Siniakova and Anastasia Potapova in her previous two rounds in straight sets, Vondrousova was a 1/3 favourite with bet365 to overpower former US Open winner Sloane Stephens in her third round encounter.

And Vondrousova did that in an hour and 23 minutes, winning 7-5, 6-3 to come through to the next stage.

What was so clinical about Vondrousova’s play was her ability to clinch breaks on four of the five times she got an opportunity while getting broken just once in the match.

Interestingly, Vondrousova had never gotten past the first round of this tournament in her career before this season. A third round appearance at the Canadian Open last week has now been followed up with a quarterfinal here, which means she has already skipped over to the ninth rank in the world when the new rankings come out next week.

Does she have the firepower now to test the world number one?

Swiatek Made to Work by Qinwen

It was a bit of a strange third round win for Swiatek but another indicator that she hasn’t been at her best in recent times.

The world number one, who had come off a 6-1, 6-0 drubbing of Danielle Collins in the second round, needed two hours and 12 minutes in her 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Qinwen Zheng in the third round.

What was even more fascinating was of the five games she lost in the match, four were off her own serve. In turn, she broke Qinwen’s serve a whopping seven times in a match filled with errors aplenty.

Incidentally, it took Swiatek to change her outfit after losing the first set to change her fortunes around with the world number one later admitting it had been her coach’s idea to do that after losing a set.

She will now hope she doesn’t need to change her uniform around against Vondrousova but the fact is, Swiatek will need to up her game drastically for sure even if she starts a 2/7 favourite in this one with bet365.

Swiatek v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip

While Swiatek is an overwhelming favourite, Vondrousova is coming off a title win at Wimbledon and could put up a steady display. Still backing a Swiatek win and in all probabilities in straight sets as well.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Swiatek to win in straight sets: 4/5 (with bet365)
