Hubert Hurkacz v Alexei Popyrin Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players, both of which came at the Indian Wells Master and Hurkacz leads 2-0. The second of those were played earlier this year.

Popyrin Continues Sparkling Run

As we had mentioned in our preview to Popyrin’s previous round match against Emil Ruusuvuori, the Aussie had come into the match on the back of some fortune.

Popyrin had made the main draw as a lucky loser and went on to scrape past Daniel Altmaier in a first round match that could have gone either way.

He was to face Nicolas Jarry in the second round in which he would have started out as a second favourite again but his opponent opted to withdraw from the tournament for personal reasons.

And then starting out as a 6/4 (with bet365) underdog against Ruusuvuori, he managed to register a three-set win over him to make it to the quarterfinal for the first time in his ATP 1000 Masters career.

In winning 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 over Ruusuvuori, Popyrin has broken into the top 40 of the live ATP Rankings for the first time in his career. Can he now get close to becoming a top-30 player with a victory here?

Hurkacz Stuns Tsitsipas

Such has been Stefanos Tsitsipas’ form, his defeat to Hurkacz wasn’t that big a surprise but the manner of loss surely was.

Even in his loss, Tsitsipas was expected to put up a fight. However, Hurkacz, coming into this match with wins over Thanasi Kokkinakis and Borna Coric and having pushed the world number one to the limits in his Canadian Masters defeat last week, looks to have found a strong rhythm of his own.

And in doing so, he crushed Tsitsipas’ chances with a 6-3, 6-4 rout in a match that lasted a mere 65 minutes.

Hurkacz faced three break-points and saved all of them while overcoming his opponent’s serve once in each of the two sets. Making it even more clinical was the fact that he had earned just two break-points too.

In total, Hurkacz lost a mere 10 points on his own serve in the entire match, spread across 10 service games – another indicator that his opponent couldn’t come close to getting past him.

No surprises then that Hurkacz starts off a 3/10 favourite here with bet365.

Hurkacz v Popyrin Prediction and Tip

While Popyrin has been doing it quite nicely, Hurkacz’s form is something to behold and he will be our pick to win it and probably do that in straight sets too.
