Quentin Halys v Facundo Diaz Acosta Head to Head

Halys and Acosta have never faced off before this.

Halys Hoping to Reproduce Miami Form

Halys enters this tournament as his only hardcourt competition he will use as a tune-up for the US Open after having opted not to play at either the Canadian Masters or the Cincinnati Open. Around the time that the Canadian Masters was being played, the Frenchman had opted to feature in an exhibition clay court competition in Germany instead.

What that means is that Halys will enter the Winston-Salem Open having last played a top-level ATP event in March when he participated in the Miami Masters.

The good news is that Halys had shown there what he is capable of in hardcourt competitions, having reached the fourth round in Miami.

And this was with wins over Alex de Minaur and Mackenzie McDonald despite starting out a 5/2 and 6/4 underdog (with bet365) against those two opponents respectively.

Halys now faces a player who is himself more of a clay-courter and should not have much of a problem in his comeback hardcourt match.

Acosta in Early Days of His Career

22 years of age and a clay-court specialist, Acosta’s made into the top 100 of the ATP Rankings for the first time in his career this season.

And that has been thanks to his performances at the lower circuits with the Argentine having won three Challenger titles in 2023. All of them came on clay.

The only time that Acosta did play in a hardcourt competition this season was at the Noumea Challenger and then in the qualifiers of the Australian Open. Since then, all but one matches have come on clay with the only other encounter having been played at the Wimbledon qualifiers.

Which is why, it’s tough to see Acosta challenging anyone in a tournament like this, having not played in a hardcourt match for months. The only thing to remember is that Acosta is returning from an injury having last played a month ago.

Halys v Acosta Prediction and Tip

Halys might not be the best on a hardcourt surface but against an opponent who prefers clay over any other surface, he will start off a heavy favourite.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Halys to win: 1/2 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
