Brandon Nakashima v Jason Kubler Head to Head
Nakashima and Kubler have never faced off before this.

Nakashima Gasping for Form
He was once ranked 43rd in the world and tipped to break into the top 30 very quickly. In recent times, however, Nakashima has struggled to get going and enters this tournament on the back of a three-match losing streak and having fallen to 73rd in the world.
And it’s not just the thee matches that he has lost in a row that will be a bother for Nakashima.
The American has also clinched a mere nine victories this year to go with 17 defeats with his record in hardcourt competitions a shocking 6-9 on win-loss. The worry for Nakashima has been the fact that he has lost his matches to players ranked across the board.
Likes of Aleksandar Vukic, Jiri Lehecka, Christopher Eubanks, Gregoire Barrere – you name it and Nakashima has registered a loss. And which is why it makes it difficult to see how he can shrug off his opening defeats at Toronto and Cincinnati and put up a showing here.

Kubler Failed to Qualify for Cincinnati
The one way that Nakashima can win one is by playing against someone who is ranked as low as Kubler is at 85th. Not to mention the fact that while Kubler’s form hasn’t quite been appalling, he has also struggled at the highest level in recent times.
The 30-year-old from Australia made the second round at Wimbledon recently but since then has only featured in one tournament – the Cincinnati Masters.
And even there, he was sent packing from the qualifiers by Dusan Lajovic, a player not known for his play in hardcourt competitions.
Still, Kubler has done better than Nakashima in hardcourt competitions this season, having won seven of the 12 matches he played on this surface in the first half of the season. That included a third round appearance at the Indian Wells Masters.
Can he now take advantage of Nakashima’s struggles?
