After having made it to the second round of the Washington Open in August, Albot was crushed by JJ Wolf there before falling to Marcos Giron in the qualifiers at the Canadian Masters.
And it’s been that kind of a season for Albot, a former world number 39, who has had his struggles and then has registered the odd opening round wins too.
As a result of that, Albot’s ranking has fluctuated between a season-best of 97th and a low of 123rd, after his peak of 39th had come in 2019. Since then, however, Albot’s ranking has seen a steady decline and he has never seen the inside of the top 50 of the rankings since February 2020.

Galan Hasn’t Won a Hardcourt Match This Season
At the best of times, Galan’s top-most performances in his career have come on clay. This year, it’s been even worse for hardcourt tournaments with Galan failing to win any main draw matches in those tournaments.
What’s then interesting to note is that Galan’s best performance this year came at Wimbledon. He benefitted from a relatively easier draw but for him to make the fourth round was still, a job well done.
Since then, Galan did make the quarterfinal at the Kitzbuhel Open too but that was followed again, by a qualifying loss at the Cincinnati Masters.
This is what makes it so difficult to understand what kind of form Galan is in coming into a tournament. Now playing another struggler, Galan’s a favourite here but does he have the game in a hardcourt competition to dominate the proceedings?
