World No. 21 Ekaterina Alexandrova has taken things a bit slow since her stellar grass-court campaign.
With a record of 10-2 on the traditional turf – where she won the Libema Open, reached the semis in Berlin, and round four in Wimbledon, the 28-year-old Russian has competed only in the recently-concluded Cincinnati Open.
The opening match there ended rather shockingly in the form of a 0-6, 2-6 loss at the hands of Sorana Cirstea. Perhaps, the match with Tig will be better as she is way out of practice.
Earlier in the season, Alexandrova was a quarterfinalist in the Miami Open and WTA Charleston too.
Looking at her record, she has bagged 23 wins against only 14 losses. Overall, she fields quite a bit of momentum and pedigree – which certainly justifies her fourth seeding in Tennis in the Land this year.

Tig on a Slow Roll
Patricia Maria Tig of Romania finds herself rebuilding her form. Having started active participation in professional tennis only towards the end of last year – after a 14-month hiatus – it’s been a long road so far.
In 2023, Tig played in a mix of WTA and ITF events without overburdening her schedule. Case in point, she has participated in only seven tournaments – with her best results coming in two ITF Romania events where she reached the quarters.
Her last couple of events were on the WTA circuit in Lausanne and Prague, where she fell in round one against Julia Riera and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.
Patricia’s year-to-date record stands at 4-6, with zero wins on hard courts. She is currently ranked World No. 704.
Alexandrova v Tig Prediction and Tip
This one should be an easy win for Ekaterina. Tig is out of her element and needs a bit more time and, probably, less taxing opponents to find her bearings. Expect a one-sided affair.
