Max Purcell v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head
This will be their first tour level meeting, however, they have met twice in the qualifying rounds before with Purcell winning both of them. One of those wins came in Estoril in 2022 and the other at the Australian Open this year. Cecchinato retired from the latter while trailing 6-3, 3-2.

Max Purcell has been playing some brilliant tennis recently and as a result of that he has scored two top 15 wins in the last two weeks, which includes his first ever top 10 win over world no. 7 Casper Ruud in Cincinnati this week.
The 25-year-old Australian had also beaten then no. 12 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Canadian Masters last week.
While Purcell went down in the second round in Toronto, he went on to reach his maiden Masters 1000 quarterfinal in Cincinnati this week. Playing as a qualifier he knocked out Lloyd Harris, Ruud and Stan Wawrinka, before going down to Carlos Alcaraz in a three-set quarterfinal.
Purcell is 6-11 at the tour level but 47-18 overall this year and that includes six Challenger finals. He won three of them, all in India, and finished runner-up in three others.

Cecchinato Struggling in 2023
World no. 111 Marco Cecchinato will be making his fifth appearance in Winston-Salem. The Italian has never gone past the second round.
Cecchinato has not played a hard court match since retiring against Purcell in the Australian Open qualifier in January. So he will need to adjust to the faster surface.
His recent form hasn’t been great either as he has suffered more losses recently than he has won matches.
A three-time tour level champion, Cecchinato is 11-13 at the tour level and 14-23 from all his matches this season.
He will be desperate to get some form going, but faces a tough opponent in the first round.
