Rinky Hijikata v Illya Marchenko Head to Head
They have met just once before at a qualifying round in Ilkley last year and Hijikata won that match in three sets.

Rinky Hijikata has a 6-6 tour level record this season. The Australian had reached his first ever ATP semifinal in ‘s-Hertogenbosch this year. He had made the main draw as a lucky loser but made the most of the opportunity by winning three in a row before falling in the last four stage.
That performance was part of a pretty decent grass run, where he had a 9-6 record across levels this year.
He has, however, played most of his tennis on hard court this year and has a 20-16 record on the surface across levels. He won the second Challenger title of his career and a first of this season in Burnie, Australia in February and has been a quarterfinalist in four other Challenger tournaments, three on hard and one on grass.
Hijikata’s biggest achievement of the season was his maiden Grand Slam triumph at the Australian Open, where he won the doubles title with Jason Kubler.

Marchenko Qualifies for the Main Draw
Illya Marchenko of Ukraine qualified for the main draw with a straight sets win over the United States’ Omni Kumar.
The world no. 264 Marchenko saved 4 of 7 break points and converted 5 of 7 to beat the world no. 383, 6-4, 6-4 in the second qualifying round on Sunday.
The Ukrainian, a former world no. 49, had beaten Filippo Moroni 6-3, 6-4 in the first qualifying round on Saturday.
With the two wins, Marchenko has now extended a current win streak to seven matches. He had won the Salinas Challenger in Ecuador in the last week of July.
Marchenko is 16-3 on hard courts across levels this year. But this has by far been the best phase of the season for the 35-year-old. It will be his first main draw appearance at the tour level in 2023. Can he make a strong start?
Hijikata v Marchenko Prediction and Tip
This is going to be a good contest as Marchenko’s recent form has been pretty good. But he has not played a tour level match this year. Hijikata has more experience playing at the top level this year. Expect this match to go the distance with Hijikata edging through.
